ADDIS ABABA: Technology application is crucial for managing Ethiopia’s land and water resources, as emphasized by Minister of Water and Energy Habtamu Itefa. A meeting organized in Addis Ababa by the Ministry of Water and Energy highlighted the role of technology in resource management, drawing on the expertise of Czech Republic professionals.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Minister Itefa underscored the importance of technology in monitoring, planning, and managing land and water resources. He noted the involvement of Czech Republic experts in Ethiopian water sector institutions and stressed the need for accurate information to effectively utilize groundwater resources. The minister highlighted the recent landslide incidents in Ethiopia, emphasizing the necessity of proper data to predict potential dangers and save lives.

Czech Republic Ambassador to Ethiopia, Miroslav Kosek, reiterated the significance of hydrogeological research for Ethiopia’s future, providing reliable data essential for understand
ing the country’s geological structures and water resources. This research supports improved planning for landscapes, sustainable land use, and effective resource management decisions.

Ambassador Kosek praised the partnership with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water and Energy, stating that collaboration ensures research results guide national water and land management strategies, and help identify infrastructure and business opportunities. He noted the shared vision between Czech Republic and Ethiopia in using innovation and technology to tackle challenges, including advanced water treatment technologies that could boost trade and investment between the two nations.

State Minister of Water and Energy Abraha Adugna highlighted the importance of exploiting groundwater in areas with insufficient rainfall to ensure sustainable and resilient water resources. He advocated for advanced technology and a coordinated, systematic approach, emphasizing the role of integrated mapping in effectively utilizing the country’s wat
er resources.
