Isinya, during a graduation ceremony at the International Teaching and Training Center (ITTC), Dr. Salome Maina, Director of Teacher Education in the Ministry of Education, emphasized the need for teachers to upgrade their qualifications.

According to Kenya News Agency, teachers who graduated with certificates in Early Childhood Education (ECDE) and Primary Teacher Education (PTE) are required to obtain diplomas to align with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and other educational reforms.

Dr. Maina stressed that the 21st-century educational environment demands a labor force that is adaptable and possesses both technical and soft skills. The government’s adoption of the CBC in teacher training colleges is intended to produce teachers who are competitive, learner-centered, and responsive to societal needs. She underscored the expectation for teachers to inspire and engage learners effectively, creating a conducive environment for learning.

The Director acknowledged the important role of private institutions in providing educational opportunities and urged them to adhere to quality standards. She also reminded teachers to register with the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), familiarize themselves with educational reforms, and access legal and policy documents related to education on the TSC and Ministry of Education websites.

Dr. Maina affirmed the government’s commitment to providing equal educational opportunities to all Kenyans, emphasizing continual investment in basic education. She called for active participation in ensuring equal education opportunities for both boys and girls at all levels.

William Aketch, Chairperson of the ITTC Board of Management, encouraged the graduating teachers to uphold integrity, professionalism, honesty, and honor in their roles. Over 1,200 students graduated with qualifications in Teacher Education, Primary Teacher Education, Early Childhood Development Education, and various TVET courses.
