Teachers in Ziga Encouraged to Promote Mother Tongues for Better Learning Outcomes

Ouagadougou: Teachers in the Ziga Basic Education District have been encouraged to prioritize the use of students' mother tongues to enhance understanding and problem-solving skills. Edmond Ouedraogo, Head of the Ziga Basic Education District (CCEB), made this recommendation during a recent meeting aimed at exchanging and sharing experiences related to the 2026 provincial mock CEP exam results.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting revealed a pass rate of 79.82% among 649 candidates in the province-wide mock exam. Although this outcome is considered positive by the district chief, it still falls short of the 90% target set at the beginning of the academic year.

Educational supervisor Harouna Bamogo emphasized that the meeting serves as a platform for honest exchanges among teachers, allowing those with less experience to learn from their peers. The discussions highlighted challenges in problem-solving and text analysis. Proposed solutions included enhancing foundational skills, engaging in practical exercises, involving students actively, offering tutoring, and fostering better collaboration among teachers.

The gathering included educational supervisors, school principals, and both permanent and substitute teachers of CM2 (fifth grade). It provided an opportunity for participants to develop common strategies aimed at boosting academic performance, just weeks ahead of the 2026 session of the CEP (primary school leaving certificate) exams.
