Tapoa: The provincial coordination of women of Tapoa celebrated the 168th International Women's Day on Saturday, March 22, 2025, AIB noted. The event took place in Diapaga, focusing on the theme "Security and humanitarian crisis: what strategy to promote women's agricultural entrepreneurship?"
According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration included cleaning public services, radio games, and community meals benefiting inmates at the Diapaga remand and correctional center. Additionally, patients at the Diapaga CMA medical center with a surgical unit and the physically disabled from Mahadaga were also part of the day's activities dedicated to women in Tapoa.
"The MACD inmates face many difficulties related to, among other things, food, healthcare, electricity and many other things that can bring a smile to the inmates' faces," said Possibo Jeanne Coulidiati, provincial coordinator of women in Tapoa. She explained that the day of solidarity and mutual aid was organized to support vulnerable groups in the commune.
Yacouba Zorom©, GSP controller at the remand center, welcomed the women's delegation, noting that the gesture promotes humane detention conditions and recognizes the ongoing social work by prison staff to humanize prisons. He expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown to the inmates.
Provincial Secretary General Martin Zoundi, along with Provincial Director of Humanitarian Action Lassan© Sawadogo, acknowledged the need for significant resources to care for MACD residents due to the number of inmates and the security situation. The women's visit aims to draw community and stakeholder attention to gender integration in prison structures and effective inmate care.
During the event, inmates received food kits, and Jeanne Coulidiati urged her colleagues to be more tolerant of inmates, particularly women, who face marginalization after their release.
After the ceremony, Secretary General Martin Zoundi and his delegation toured the detention center and shared a communal meal with inmates. This gesture was repeated at the Diapaga CMA with the sick and at the Mahadaga IDP Disability Center, bringing joy to the inmates, the sick, and the disabled of Diapaga.
The inmate representative expressed gratitude for the day of solidarity and sharing, emphasizing that it showed they are not forgotten. He requested Mr. Zoundi's assistance in restoring electricity to the prison.
