Dar es Salaam: The president of Tanzania, Samia Hassan, has taken to social media to congratulate Namibia’s president-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. ‘On behalf of the government and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, president-elect of the Republic of Namibia, on your historic victory in the 2024 Namibian general election,’ Hassan wrote on her various social media platforms.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Hassan expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Nandi-Ndaitwah in enhancing the strong fraternal bonds and historical ties between Tanzania and Namibia. This marks a significant moment as Nandi-Ndaitwah is set to become Namibia’s first female president when she is sworn in March 2025, following her recent election victory.
Namibia made history by electing its first female president 34 years after gaining independence. The Namibian general elections took place from November 27 to 30, 2024. Samia Hassan herself
is a trailblazer in her own right, having become Tanzania’s first female president following the passing of her predecessor, John Magufuli, in 2021.
