Ouagadougou: The first traditional flag-raising ceremony of the year 2026 was held on Monday, January 5 at the Banfora governorate. Chaired by the governor of the Tannounyan region, Patrice Yy, this solemn ceremony was an opportunity for the regional authority to deliver a message of recognition and mobilization to the vital forces of the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the governor extended wishes for peace, security, and success to all stakeholders, while also offering a prayer for the deceased. He paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, praying that the free land of Burkina Faso may rest lightly upon them.
Looking ahead to 2025, Patrice Yy highlighted the efforts made in several areas. He paid tribute to the fighting forces for their victories in the theater of operations, which allowed the population to celebrate the end-of-year holidays peacefully with their families. He also commended the population for their vigilance during this sensitive period.
The governor also expressed his appreciation to administrative officials for the work done at all levels to keep the indicators positive in terms of regional development. He commended the resilience of the Tannounyan people, committed to the People's Progressive Revolution, and the crucial role of the local press in disseminating accurate information and combating stereotypes targeting the nation. Traditional and religious authorities were also praised for their contribution to preserving social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
Looking ahead, the governor indicated that 2026 marks the beginning of a new chapter, fraught with challenges. He called on all public and private stakeholders to redouble their efforts and fully commit to implementing the projects announced by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor, in his end-of-year address. According to him, patriotic fervor must be strengthened, because "no one will build Burkina Faso for us."
