Tannounyan: Prohibited and Expired Products Estimated at Over 150 Million Incinerated in Banfora

Tannounyan: The governor of the Tannounyan region, Patrice Yeye, accompanied by administrative authorities and the Defense and Security Forces, oversaw the incineration on Thursday of a large quantity of prohibited, expired, and contraband goods banned from sale. These products were seized during several inspection operations conducted by the Tannounyan Regional Directorate of Industry, Trade, and Handicrafts.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the total value of the destroyed goods is estimated at 150,500,000 FCFA. The incinerated products include, among other things, liqueurs made with Lava The technical services reported that the quantity of food products seized amounts to 15,101 cartons of cigarettes and 351 pagnes from March 8th, which will be intended for vulnerable people and internally displaced persons, in addition to various other products.

For Governor Patrice Yeye, this operation is the culmination of several control actions carried out by the competent services. 'This seizure, which we have just incinerated, is the result of numerous operations conducted by our technical services, particularly the regional directorate of industry, commerce, and crafts. These products are unfit for consumption, which is why we decided to incinerate them,' he explained.

The governor also appealed to local businesses. While acknowledging that commerce is a right, he stressed the need to comply with existing regulations. He further urged residents to cooperate with technical services by reporting any suspicious practices in order to protect consumer health.

Foromine Sourabie, the complaints officer of the Consumers' League, Comoe section, expressed his satisfaction with the seizure and incineration of these products that are dangerous to public health. According to him, this operation is a beneficial step towards consumer protection. He also encouraged the public to strengthen their collaboration with the regional directorate of industry, trade, and crafts to combat these illegal practices.

Kobe Nebie, the regional director of industry, trade, and crafts of Tannounyan, expressed his gratitude to the governor and to the senior officials of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Crafts for their support and advice, which enabled the success of this control mission. He also commended the commitment and availability of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) who supported the inspection teams during the various operations conducted in the region.
