Baku: The city of Banfora, capital of the Tannounyan region, hosted the second Regional Government Conference on Saturday, July 18, 2026. The conference aims to transition from distant governance to a more direct and continuous dialogue with the populace.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was organized by the Government Information Service (SIG) under the patronage of Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Oudraogo, represented by Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Pingdwend Gilbert Oudraogo. The minister emphasized the government's commitment to fostering accountability by engaging in open communication with citizens to better align with their expectations.

The minister reiterated Burkina Faso's progress in achieving sovereignty, security, and development. He noted the advances in reclaiming national territory, agricultural and fisheries initiatives, infrastructure development, and improved access to basic social services. Highlighting the agricultural potential of Tannounyan, he reaffirmed the government's support for local development, focusing on enhancing local industries, providing opportunities for youth, and building structural infrastructure.

Participants were encouraged to voice their concerns and suggestions, with the minister hoping Banfora will symbolize renewed dialogue between the state and its citizens. The Coordinator of the Government Information Service, Jrmy Si Coulibaly, stated that the SIG aims to enlighten citizens on government actions and engage them in public decision-making.

Governor Patrice Yy expressed gratitude for the national efforts under the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP) and praised the return of stability to a region previously troubled by terrorism. He commended the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and Dozos for their role in restoring peace.

The governor highlighted the conference as an opportunity for the public to address their concerns directly with government officials and to receive accurate information on public affairs, urging participants to help combat disinformation and fake news.
