Tanghin-Dassouri: 17 Million FCFA Worth of Equipment to Boost Women’s Empowerment

Tanghin-dassouri: The Special Delegation of the municipality of Tanghin-Dassouri handed over a significant amount of equipment to women's associations on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, on the occasion of the belated celebration of International Women's Day.

According to Burkina Information Agency, in total, 18 women's associations belonging to the Communal Women's Coordination received equipment including grain and soumbala hullers, tomato mills, weaving machines, cooking pots, barrels, watering troughs, and draft animals, for a total estimated value of nearly 17 million FCFA.

The President of the Special Delegation (PDS), Rabiata Sawadogo, stated that this support aims to strengthen women's income-generating activities and promote their empowerment. "When a woman is financially independent, her entire family benefits," she emphasized, noting that self-employment is a response to rising unemployment. She also urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the equipment received to ensure its durability and optimize production.

The municipal coordinator for women, Noelie Tiendrebeogo, praised the initiative by the municipal authority, believing that it will contribute to the fight against poverty and the strengthening of women's autonomy.

The beneficiaries expressed their satisfaction. Aliz¨ta Ilboudo noted that this donation will remove major constraints related to product processing. "We will now be able to produce more without traveling long distances," she said.

In addition to the ceremony, participants contributed 109,150 FCFA to the Faso Mªbo initiative, reflecting their commitment to development actions. Presentations on social cohesion and health were also organized the day before to strengthen the role of women in local development.
