Burkina Faso/Putsch foiled: an officer loses his life during an arrest that allegedly went wrong

The military prosecutor’s office, through a press release, announced the death on Sunday morning of Commander Ismaël Touhogobou, during an arrest that allegedly went wrong. Military justice wanted to hear him about the foiled putsch of September 26, 2023.

In the press release sent to the AIB, the military prosecutor’s office specifies that “opposing his arrest, the officer allegedly used his weapon, injuring an element of the arrest team who was admitted to a detention center.” health for appropriate care’.

According to the military prosecutor’s office, an investigation was immediately opened to elucidate the circumstances of this incident.

COMMUNIQUE FROM THE MILITARY PROSECUTION AT THE MILITARY TRIBUNAL OF OUGADOUGOU

Today, October 8, 2023, the military prosecutor’s office was informed of an incident leading to the death of Commander TOUHOGOBOU Ismael, an officer of the national armed forces, in the Gounghin district of Ouagadougou, follo
wing an arrest around 7 a.m. which allegedly went wrong .

The prosecution immediately went to the scene, accompanied by the Judicial Police, the scientific and technical police of the National Gendarmerie, the Ouagadougou Garrison officer and a doctor for the usual findings.

Following these findings, the body of Commander TOUHOGOBOU Ismael was removed by military funeral directors.

The person concerned was the subject of an arrest warrant in connection with the attempted attack on state security.

Objecting to his arrest, the officer allegedly used his weapon, injuring a member of the arrest team who was admitted to a health center for appropriate care.

An investigation was immediately opened to elucidate the circumstances of this incident.
