World Bank Allocates Over USD 3 Billion for Development Projects in Angola

LUANDA – The World Bank has announced the availability of 3.4 billion US dollars for various development projects in Angola. Juan Carlos Alvarez, the World Bank’s representative for São Tomé and Príncipe and Angola, shared this information on Monday in Luanda during the launch ceremony of the Public Procurement internship program.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the World Bank is currently supporting 12 regional projects in Angola, focusing on sectors such as education, health, social protection, energy, water, and budget support. These projects commenced in 2021 and are reportedly being implemented satisfactorily. Alvarez noted that these projects have a five-year implementation lifespan, with disbursements occurring gradually. He emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional capacity among project implementation teams and fostering knowledge sharing among ministries to enhance project execution.

Alvarez highlighted the significance of the newly launched internship program, which is expected to aid in the effective implementation of World Bank-funded projects in Angola, ultimately benefiting the Angolan population. The program is designed to train more Angolan professionals in public procurement, increase the speed and effectiveness of project implementation, reduce costs associated with hiring procurement specialists, and enhance the quality of procurement processes.

The internships, lasting two years and non-renewable, include both theoretical and practical components. This initiative has been developed in collaboration with the National Public Procurement Service and the National School of Administration and Public Policy (ENAPP).
