Stealing harvested soya, two suspects nabbed

On Wednesday, 21 June 2023, the Petrus Steyn police, together with farmers, arrested two suspects from Mpumalanga Province in possession of suspected stolen soya beans a few kilometres outside town.

It’s alleged that the two suspects were at Petrus Steyn silos with their hired truck to load soya beans. The other employees were stunned upon seeing that the truck never went to the weighing scale (bridge) at the silos, but the driver drove off after loading. They became suspicious and alerted the police and other local farmers. The truck was successfully stopped about seven kilometres outside Petrus Steyn on the R57 towards Reitz. The two suspects, aged 22 and 23, from Delmas in Mpumalanga were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property, which is soya beans estimated at a value of R450 000.

The two suspects have been charged and are expected to appear before Reitz Magistrate Court on Friday, 23 June 2023, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
