Syria Thanks King Mohammed VI for Reopening Moroccan Embassy in Damascus

Baghdad: Syrian Foreign Minister Assaad Al-Shaibani expressed his country’s thanks and gratitude in Baghdad for King Mohammed VI’s decision to reopen the Moroccan embassy in Damascus. He described relations between the two countries as “very good,” expressing a desire to strengthen them, particularly in the economic and investment spheres.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this decision was reiterated by Minister Nasser Bourita during a meeting with his Syrian counterpart, on the sidelines of the 34th Arab Summit. The Moroccan decision was announced by the Moroccan Sovereign in a speech addressed to the 34th Summit of the League of Arab States, which closed its work in Baghdad, stressing that this approach aimed to open up broader perspectives in the historical relations between the two countries and the two peoples.

King Mohammed VI also reiterated his support for the Syrian people “in their quest for freedom, security and stability,” as well as his commitment to preserving “the national sovereignty
and territorial integrity of Syria.” A Moroccan technical delegation will travel to Syria next week to prepare for the opening of the embassy. Damascus will also send a team to Rabat to reopen its embassy, signaling a shared desire to revive cooperation between the two countries.
