Kunene region: The Swapo Party Women's Council in the Kunene Region has condemned recent remarks directed at President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and her family, labelling the allegations defamatory and unfounded. According to Namibia Press Agency, regional coordinator Kahimbona Musaso in a media statement denounced comments made last month by Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) president Panduleni Itula and other opposition figures. The remarks accused the president of nepotism, alleging that her family members were being positioned to benefit unfairly from the country's natural resources through the awarding of state contracts. Musaso stated that these claims are misleading and aimed at undermining the credibility of the Head of State. She noted that these attacks come at a time when the government is taking decisive steps to safeguard Namibia's emerging oil and gas sector, which is a strategic national asset that must be managed responsibly. Musaso further highlighted the president's firm commitment to e thical governance, transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption. She emphasized that an attack on the president is effectively an attack on the Swapo Party itself, and by extension, Namibians who have placed their trust in her leadership. She also criticized the tendency to target politicians' families, stressing that political contestation should focus on policy, ideas, and national development rather than personal attacks. According to Musaso, the national elections last year reaffirmed the public's confidence in Nandi-Ndaitwah and her vision for Namibia's future. Musaso warned that attempts to distort the president's intentions or discredit her administration would not succeed, stressing her lifelong commitment to the liberation, unity, and development of the nation. The regional coordinator called on political actors and media practitioners to exercise restraint, uphold ethical journalism, and prioritize balanced, factual reporting. She concluded by stating, 'Namibia's democracy must be strengthened through constructive engagement, respectful debate, and responsible leadership, not sensationalism or personal attacks.'
