OTJIWARONGO – At a star rally on Saturday, the Swapo Party welcomed 200 new members, with the majority of these new additions hailing from the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) in the Okakarara Constituency.

According to a new release by Namibia Press Agency, the event took place in Otjiwarongo, in the Otjozondjupa Region and was attended by Swapo Party Vice President and the 2024 Presidential candidate, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who served as the keynote speaker.

Nandi-Ndaitwah outlined the party’s commitment to reclaim lost ground in previous national elections, specifically mentioning the elections of 2015 and 2020. She stressed the importance of economic development and putting the interests of the people at the heart of the party’s policies. With the internal party campaigns for Swapo positions for 2022 concluded, Nandi-Ndaitwah stated that the focus now shifts to restoring unity among its members to defeat opposition parties in the upcoming 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as the 2025 Regional and Local Authority elections.

In a gesture of unity, Nandi-Ndaitwah invited Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and Pohamba Shifeta, her internal rivals for the position of Swapo Party Vice President at the 2022 Swapo Party congress, to join her at the front of the rally. All three danced to the music of the Ndilimani Cultural Troupe, symbolizing a united front.

The event was attended by several Cabinet ministers, regional executive committee members from all 14 regions, governors, and numerous party supporters. Swapo Party Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa and the country’s Vice President, Nangolo Mbumba, were also present. The rally was held at the DRC informal settlement soccer field in Otjiwarongo.
