Swakopmund: Telecom Namibia Sports Club will host the 2026 Southern African Telecommunications Games (SATeG) in Swakopmund from 03 to 06 April.
According to Namibia Press Agency, a media statement issued by Telecom Namibia, the regional sporting event will bring together telecommunications operators from Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Mozambique and aims to promote sportsmanship, collaboration, and unity within the telecommunications sector.
SATeG is a long-standing tradition among telecommunications companies in Southern Africa and serves as a platform for strengthening relationships among industry players while encouraging wellness and engagement beyond the workplace. A preparatory meeting held on 27 and 28 February included site visits to key venues in Swakopmund to ensure facilities meet hosting requirements.
The programme will feature several sporting codes, cultural activities, and a gala dinner aimed at promoting inclusivity, networking, and regional cooperation. Chairperson of the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation, Richard Matsheka was quoted as saying that the platform provides an opportunity for telecommunications operators to engage and exchange ideas while strengthening industry ties across borders. He said the games embody teamwork, discipline, excellence, and regional unity among telecommunications companies.
Meanwhile, chairperson of the MTC board, Lilian Simataa, emphasised the importance of unity and growth within the industry.
