Suspects to appear in court to face firearm and drug related charges

Our endeavours to protect our communities against criminals led to the arrest of a 43-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs in Junker Street, The Hague, Delft on Tuesday, 20 June 2023. Police members were busy with stop and search operations in the area when they searched the man and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition and seven and a half mandrax tablets in his possession.

Furthermore the members searched a house in Junker Street and confiscated 34 rounds of ammunition that were hidden in a cupboard in the room. A 29-year-old man was arrested and detained for the illegal possession of ammunition. The members also arrested a 19-year-old male for the possession of drugs in the same street.

Once charged the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court.

In an unrelated matter members of Grassy police were busy with crime prevention duties in the Lotus River area when they heard gunshots going off in the area where they were searching for a person. They drove in the direction of the sound of the gunshots. They were stopped by two persons who informed them that a man was walking in their direction and fired gunshots at them and gave a description. The suspect fitting the description was apprehended and searched and found in possession of a .38 Special revolver with ammunition. The suspect was identified by the victims and their statements were obtained. The adult male was arrested for attempted murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges.
