Suspect Arrested in Nelspruit for Possession of Suspected Illicit Substances

Nelspruit – A 37-year-old individual was apprehended in Nelspruit for allegedly possessing substances believed to be illegal drugs. The suspect is set to appear at the Delmas District Court on Monday, 11 December 2023, following the arrest.

According to South African Police Service, the arrest was a result of a collaborative effort involving the Delmas SAPS, Middleburg K9 Unit, and Valke neighborhood watch. The operation was initiated after a whistleblower reported suspicious activities in Botleng Ext 3, Delmas.

The law enforcement team executed a raid on a residence in the early hours of Friday, 08 December 2023, around 03:00. During the search operation, they confiscated 135 pinches of substances suspected to be Heroin, 49 rocks thought to be Cocaine, and one tablet presumed to be Mandrax. The total street value of the seized substances is estimated at about R9250.00.

The apprehended substances, which will be used as evidence, are scheduled to be sent for forensic analysis to ascertain their exact nature.

Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, praised the effectiveness of the team involved in the operation. She also encouraged whistleblowers to continue aiding law enforcement agencies in combating criminal activities, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the fight against crime.
