Beijing — As the week-long National Day holiday in China approaches its conclusion, the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. is gearing up for a significant increase in train travel on Sunday, anticipating one of the busiest days of this festive period.
According to Namibia Press Agency, railway authorities are preparing for an estimated 18.73 million train trips on the final day of the holiday, with over 1,400 additional trains deployed to accommodate the spike in demand. This peak in travel activity is largely driven by long-distance return trips, marking a continuation of a trend seen throughout the holiday, where daily passenger counts consistently exceeded 17 million.
Since the start of the holiday rush on September 29, the railway network has sold 155 million tickets through the official ticket-booking website, 12306.cn, and its mobile application. To manage the increased flow of passengers, railway stations across the country have implemented enhanced service measures, including the optimization of entry and exit processes to ensure safe and orderly transportation.
Overall, China’s railways are expected to handle 175 million passenger trips during the 10-day travel surge spanning from September 29 to October 8.
