Ongwediva: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on all Namibians to recognise and support the invaluable work of the Girl Guides Association. Nandi-Ndaitwah was speaking at the Girl Guides Association of Namibia’s 2025 World Thinking Day celebration held at Ongwediva on Saturday. The event was held under the theme ‘Our Story’, which according to Nandi-Ndaitwah, is not just a phrase but a guiding principle for the association. She emphasized that the promises made by the guides-to love God, their country, and to obey the rules of guides-are the essence of their identity.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the courage, resilience, and sisterhood that have defined the World Guides and the Girl Guides Association of Namibia for over a century. She described it as the story of every girl who has learned to tie a knot, sing a campfire song, read guide signs, and stand tall for her beliefs. The movement, she said, has provided a safe space for growth and development for many young girls in Namibia.

The president noted that central to being a guide is the act of giving, sharing, and caring for one another. She stressed that a guide’s happiness enables them to appreciate nature genuinely and care for others. Nandi-Ndaitwah urged for the amplification of ‘Our Story’ to raise public awareness of the association’s mission, aiming to generate excitement and participation from Girl Guides, their families, and the wider community.

She encouraged the association to showcase the positive impact they make on the lives of young women and to establish the Girl Guides as leaders in youth development. Furthermore, she called on their Boy Scouts counterparts to follow suit. Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized the need for every Namibian child to be moulded into a leader and to contribute meaningfully to society’s wellbeing, reinforcing the notion that Namibians are part of a global family connected by shared values and a commitment to making a positive impact.
