Sudan Secures Narrow Victory Over Niger in 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

JUBA — Sudan clinched a 1-0 win against Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, a crucial match held in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, on Wednesday.



According to Namibia Press Agency, James Kwesi Appiah, the team exhibited a robust performance, especially in the second half, which ultimately led to their victory. “We started very well getting to the end of the first half, the game was not as I had expected, but in the second half we started strongly to make sure that we got the victory,” Appiah explained during the post-match press conference at the Juba Olympic Stadium. He emphasized the team’s efforts to secure a spot in the upcoming 2025 AFCON tournament, set to be hosted in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.



On the opposing side, Niger’s coach, Ezzaki Badou, recognized the strength of the Sudanese team and congratulated them on their win. Badou remarked on the need to quickly boost his players’ physical fitness as they prepare for their upcoming match against Ghana on September 9. Meanwhile, Sudan is set to travel to Angola for their next encounter in Group F.
