Sudan Requests Angola’s Support for Peace Restoration

Luanda: The Sudanese ambassador to Angola, Abdelraouf Amir Ali Amir, requested Angola's support on Tuesday to help end the civil conflict that has plagued Sudan since 2023. In statements to the press, after a meeting with the second deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Arlete Chimbinda, the Sudanese diplomat reported that his country has been facing a civil conflict for about three years, which he described as an aggression against the people of Sudan.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the civil war in Sudan, which began in April 2023, is becoming one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the world. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has left over 30 million people dependent on humanitarian aid.

Ambassador Abdelraouf Amir Ali Amir stated that Angola and Sudan intend to strengthen bilateral relations in the political, economic, diplomatic, and cultural fields. The diplomat expressed gratitude for the support already provided by Angola in strengthening cooperation between the two countries and highlighted the historical nature of relations between the two states.

Relations between Angola and Sudan are characterized by friendship and political, diplomatic, and economic cooperation, with strong joint action in regional organizations such as the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR). Angola has played an active role in promoting peaceful solutions to the Sudanese conflict, advocating for a ceasefire and condemning external support for the war.
