DORI — The Departmental Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Committee (CODESUR) of Dori has initiated the sale of 6,000 bags of corn at significantly reduced prices to aid communities hit by natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

According to Burkina Information Agency, prefect and president of CODESUR in Dori, the government-backed initiative is designed to enhance food security by providing 50 kg bags of corn at a subsidized price of 6,000 FCFA, a stark contrast to the current market price of 27,500 FCFA per 100 kg. The operation distributes 300 tonnes of corn across various sectors and groups, including vulnerable populations such as people with disabilities and internally displaced persons from areas like Gorgadji, Arbinda, Sebba, Mansila, Titabé, and Solhan.

Dicko Hamidou, head of sector 4 in Dori, explained that local leaders are tasked with identifying and listing needy residents to ensure the corn reaches those most in need. To manage distribution effectively and prevent overcrowding, a detailed sales schedule has been implemented and communicated by Mr. Dicko Hama Nassourou, supervisor of SONAGES.

Aissatou Sambo, a beneficiary of the program, expressed gratitude for the support and voiced hope for the continuation of such initiatives given the soaring prices of basic cereals. This subsidized sale is part of broader efforts to stabilize food prices and support the nutritional needs of the region’s most affected communities.
