Zorgho: Students trained in journalistic writing at the Saint Pierre private high school. The president of the special municipal delegation of Zorgho, Valentin Badolo, presided over the closing ceremony of a training course in journalistic writing at the Saint Pierre private high school on Saturday.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the training session, which took place from May 1st to 2nd, 2026, involved 14 students who were taught the fundamentals of journalism. The participants engaged in group work and plenary sessions, exploring various genres such as interviews, reports, summaries, and short news items. The projects completed during the training were presented to the public at the ceremony and will be featured in the school newspaper, du Saint Pierre" (The Eye of Saint Peter), marking the first school newspaper in the Oubri region.

The initiative was spearheaded by French teacher Amadou Ouedraogo, who noted that the training was inspired by the rapid circulation of information, particularly on social media. He pointed out that students often consumed information without proper verification, leading to confusion. Ouedraogo emphasized the importance of training students to be informed citizens capable of verifying information and developing a critical mindset against fake news. He expressed gratitude to the school's founder, Albert Kabore, and the provincial communications department of Ganzourgou for their support.

Madi Ouedraogo, the trainer and director of the online media outlet Kaya Info, led the workshop. Gregoire Nanema, representing the provincial director of secondary education, praised the students for their dedication, highlighting the demanding nature of journalism that requires both rigor and responsibility. He hoped that this training would spark a lasting dynamic, establishing school journalism as a tool for education, culture, and citizenship.

Student representative Awa Kabore expressed appreciation to the supervisors and partners, pledging to build upon the training's achievements. School principal Kwami Edem APETSE underscored the significance of journalism amidst rapid information flow and encouraged students to continue their efforts.

Prefect Valentin Badolo closed the ceremony by commending the initiative, noting journalism's role in education by distinguishing between information and disinformation. He urged the students to take the content of the modules seriously. The ceremony concluded with the awarding of certificates of participation to the trained students.
