Storm Damages Simwege Primary School Structure

Katjinakatji: The structures of Simwege Primary School and several houses in Katjinakatji village were destroyed by a severe storm accompanied by heavy rain on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga of the Namibian Police Force confirmed the incident to Nampa on Sunday, stating that it occurred at around 17h00 at Katjinakatji village in the Kavango West Region. The storm brought strong winds and heavy rain, resulting in significant damage to some houses and Simwege Primary School. Roofs made of corrugated iron sheets were torn off, and traditional houses collapsed, leaving families without shelter and nowhere to sleep.

Muronga added that no injuries or fatalities were reported during the storm. Efforts are being made by the police to notify the relevant authorities to provide assistance to the affected families. Approximately 58 Grade One and Grade Two learners at Simwege Primary School are unable to attend classes due to extensive damage to classrooms and teaching materials caused by the storm.
