Police officers recovered a vehicle that was stolen and used in a kidnapping in Kemptonpark in January 2023.

Members from the Provincial Components were just reporting off-duty from high density operations, Operation Shanela, in Sasolburg when they received information from a security guard at the Sasolburg Boulevard Mall about a stolen vehicle. The vehicle, a Toyota Yaris was found at a drive-through food restaurant. It was pulled from the drive through and the driver could not provide adequate information for being in possession of the vehicle. Further information revealed that the vehicle was stolen in Kempton Park in January 2023 and also used in a kidnapping on 10 January 2023.

The suspect, a 50-year-old male, was arrested and also given a fine for driving a vehicle without a driver’s licence.

The suspect will appear on a charge of being in possession of a stolen vehicle. His involvement in the theft of the vehicle and the kidnapping will be investigated.
