Ulan bator: A steppe fire has devastated at least 2,000 hectares of land in the eastern Mongolian province of Dornod, according to the National Emergency Management Agency on Friday. The fire erupted in Khalkhgol Soum, an administrative subdivision, and was fully extinguished by Friday morning, the agency reported.
According to Namibia Press Agency, experts have identified careless handling of fire by citizens and deliberate burning of grass and debris as the main causes of natural fires. The agency has issued warnings to residents of Ulan Bator and 21 Mongolian provinces, advising them against making bonfires or discarding cigarette butts on the ground during dry weather conditions.
The total number of forest and steppe fires across Mongolia reached 216 by the end of August 2025.
