Mariental: Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, during a visit to Kai||ganaxab Youth Skills Training Centre outside Mariental, expressed her support for upgrading the facility into a full-fledged vocational training centre.
According to Namibia Press Agency,Steenkamp was accompanied by Hardap Region Governor Riaan McNab, Chief Executive Officer of the Namibia Training Authority (NTA), Erick Nenghwanya, and officials from the regional education directorate. They conducted an assessment of the facility to evaluate its potential.
Steenkamp noted that the building was of solid construction with impressive capacity, highlighting its potential to become a vocational training centre. She emphasized her commitment to elevating the facility, urging collaboration with the Namibia Training Authority and local offices. She called for a proper assessment based on the already accredited courses to facilitate the upgrading process.
NTA’s CEO, Erick Nenghwanya, informed Nampa about the organisation’s commitment to upgrading the centre. He mentioned that the Namibia Training Authority has allocated N.dollars 100.3 million for this purpose. The centre, despite its potential, has not been fully utilized or operated as a complete VTC. Nenghwanya expressed readiness, alongside the minister and Hardap leaders, to transform the facility into a functional vocational training centre.
He further emphasized that the upgrade depends on the cooperation of the Hardap regional leadership. Once an agreement is reached, NTA is prepared to authorize the facility’s transformation into a fully operational vocational training centre.
