Statutory Meeting of High Council of the Judiciary Highlights Reforms for Fair Justice.

Ouagadougou: The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, presided over the first statutory meeting of 2024 with the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM) to emphasize the importance of reforming the judicial system for fair and accessible justice for all.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president addressed the necessity of making the judicial system efficient to meet the public’s expectations. He advocated for justice that is equitable to all citizens, without discrimination. He urged the CSM to be diligent and transparent, particularly in dealing with corruption cases, to enhance the country’s respect.

The president of the CSM, Adama OUEDRAOGO, remarked on the members’ awareness of the citizens’ expectations and the need for a paradigm shift. He affirmed the CSM’s commitment to a reformed and equitable justice system. OUEDRAOGO reported that despite the crisis, the courts have improved their performance compared to the previous year.

During the meeting, the CSM reviewed its activities an
d challenges while planning for the future. OUEDRAOGO highlighted the appointment of magistrates and noted that solutions were proposed to meet public expectations. The President of Faso also allocated the former Mediator of Faso’s premises to the CSM, contributing to the institution’s independence and reducing state expenses.

The statutory meeting, held annually in November, aligns with Article 131 of the Constitution, reflecting the ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary’s role in Burkina Faso.
