Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the arrest of Dionysis-Fredi Beleri, candidate for Mayor of the Municipality of Himare with the Unity for Human Rights Party (KEAD) (12.05.2023)

Upon instructions from Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, the Ambassador of Greece to Albania, Konstantina Kamitsi, is going to the Vlora Police Station to meet the candidate for Mayor of the Municipality of Himare with the Unity for Human Rights Party (KEAD), Dionysis-Fredi Beleri, who is being held there.

The Greek Ambassador had previously made a demarche to the Albanian Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs regarding Fredi Beleri’s arrest.

In addition, during a meeting held today, the Greek Ambassador to Albania briefed the Ambassadors of the EU member states in Albania on the case of Fredi Beleri’s arrest.
