Upon instructions from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Themistoklis Demiris, made a short while ago a strong-worded demarche to the Ambassador of Turkey in Athens to protest today’s overflights of Greek territory, including over inhabited areas, by Turkish fighter aircraft.
The Secretary General underscored that these actions constitute a violation of Greece’s sovereignty, they are an unacceptable provocation and run contrary to fundamental principles of International Law.
He also stressed that these actions, in addition to being unlawful and provocative, endanger international air traffic, are completely incompatible with the principle of good neighborly relations between the two countries and undermine efforts to consolidate a climate of trust.
