Kirinyaga County Assembly Approves Bill to Boost Health Facilities


Kirinyaga – The Kirinyaga County Assembly has passed the Kirinyaga County Health Facilities Improvement Fund Bill 2023, aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of local health facilities. This bill is set to establish a dedicated fund to support the day-to-day operations of health facilities within the county.



According to Kenya News Agency, it will create a framework for the County Health Facilities Improvement Fund, providing a means for health facilities to access necessary funding. The bill also aims to establish mechanisms for these facilities to effectively plan and manage their resources. Additionally, it calls for the formation of a board to oversee the fund’s utilization, ensuring its prudent use.



The Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation Committee Chairperson, Hon. Isaiah Mbogo of Kabbare ward, who led the debate, highlighted that the bill, once enacted, will offer a secure and accountable system for collecting, retaining, and managing revenue from health services provided by county health facilities. “The county is expected to witness a transformation in the health sector,” Mbogo stated, emphasizing the bill’s potential to improve healthcare services and infrastructure.



Support for the bill was voiced by Hon. Kenneth Mwendia of Nyangati ward, who noted its significance in enhancing service delivery and ensuring the optimal functioning of public health facilities. Hon. James Wambu of Kangai ward added that the bill’s enactment reaffirms the county’s commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and prioritizing the fiscal stability of healthcare facilities and the well-being of Kirinyaga residents.



The bill received unanimous support from the assembly members and has successfully progressed to the second reading, marking a significant step towards the enhancement of healthcare services in Kirinyaga County.
