Kisumu: Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Alfred Mutua has announced a nationwide overseas jobs recruitment drive to support Kenyans interested in securing jobs abroad. The exercise, which kicks off on Wednesday next week in Machakos County, targets all 47 counties following the recent successful recruitment of 3,247 Kenyans by a Qatar firm.

According to Kenya News Agency, the nationwide recruitment drive was informed by the untold suffering Kenyans from across the country endured to participate in the interviews conducted at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and Kabete National Polytechnic. Dr. Mutua emphasized the importance of making the process more accessible, stating, “We noticed people came from all over the country. It is unfair to have people travel for thousands of kilometres with others spending the night at the recruitment venues. Instead of them going through this, we are taking the jobs to them in all the 47 counties.”

The Qatar Company, initially looking to recruit 8,000 people,
is returning to recruit an additional 5,000 Kenyans for the remaining slots. Dr. Mutua urged Kenyans to seize this opportunity and attend recruitment venues at county headquarters. Additional offers have been made by Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with job details and specifications to be posted on the Ministry’s website and other government portals.

Dr. Mutua assured that job opportunities would be distributed on a quota basis to ensure each county receives its fair share. The recruitment drive will be conducted at Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) centres in all county headquarters to test applicants for required skills as per job specifications.

The Ministry of Labour officials leading the exercise will be joined by registered recruitment agencies and officers from relevant government agencies, including the National Police Service (NPS) and the Immigration Department. This collaboration aims to expedite the issuance of cert
ificates of good conduct and passports for successful candidates.

The county-to-county recruitment drive aims to secure jobs for at least one million Kenyans and will be conducted in a free and transparent manner. Dr. Mutua encouraged all jobless, qualified, and skilled Kenyans to prepare by organizing their documents, particularly obtaining a certificate of good conduct via the E-Citizen portal.

Most job listings offer salaries ranging from Sh 40,000 to Sh 1 million, depending on the position, presenting a significant opportunity for Kenyans to improve their economic standing. Dr. Mutua highlighted the potential for workers to save, invest in housing, and support their families, contributing to the national economy.

National Assembly Departmental Committee on Labour Chairman Muchangi Karemba praised the initiative, emphasizing its role in ensuring equal job access for youths across all 47 counties. “The committee is in full support of this programme. Going to the regions is a very good idea. It is going t
o ensure that all our youths from all the 47 counties have access to these opportunities,” he said.
