Mombasa: The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Basic Education Dr Belio Kipsang has assured candidates across the country of security as they sit for KCSE. KCSE common papers begin today, the PS was accompanied by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Dr Nancy Macharia, to witness the distribution of the examinations in Mombasa. Dr Kipsang said that Regional Commissioners made adequate security arrangements and the exams kicked off fairly well across the country.
According to Kenya News Agency, Dr Kipsang acknowledged the stabilization of challenging regions, such as the North Rift, thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Interior. This stability has facilitated the smooth commencement of the examinations. He emphasized the importance of a multi-agency approach to ensure credible exams, highlighting the roles of the DCI, Police, teachers, and field officers in maintaining professional standards and security.
Teachers have been reminded to remain vigilant to ensure seamless examinations. Dr K
ipsang also addressed the issue of students in Uasin Gishu County who sat for ‘fake’ KPSEA exams, assuring that measures have been taken to prevent any disadvantage to these students. Legal action has been initiated against the responsible school officials, and the oversight officers in the area have also been held accountable.
Examinations are proceeding in areas previously declared disturbed in Tana River County due to inter-communal clashes. The media was encouraged to promote peaceful messages for the benefit of the children. Dr Kipsang stressed that a conducive environment is crucial for children to perform to their full potential during exams.
All teachers involved in administering the national examinations have undergone vetting. However, TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia mentioned that any criminal activities involving teachers would be addressed legally. She also announced that TSC will employ 20,000 teachers in January, and interns will be converted to permanent positions. In preparation for grades nine a
nd ten, teachers will receive additional training during the December holiday, supported by a Sh1 billion fund for grade ten teaching preparations.
