Stage 4 of Yennenga Women’s Tour: Elvine Yam©ogo Triumphs in Koudougou

Koudougou: Burkinabe runner Rose Elvine Yam©ogo claimed victory in the 4th stage of the Yennenga International Women's Tour, held on Friday over a 65.820 km course between Kokologho and Koudougou. She finished ahead of compatriots Samiratou Zongo and Ad¨le Guissou, all representing the city of the Red Rider.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Nigerian team had initially set the pace by launching their leader Godwin Grace from the front just 500 meters from the finish line. However, the Burkinabe riders executed a successful counter-attack in the final 100 meters, allowing Elvine Yam©ogo to clinch the win. Yam©ogo clocked a time of 1 hour, 47 minutes, and 31 seconds, achieving an average speed of 36.719 km/h, marking the highest average speed recorded since the start of the Tour.

The stage was characterized by a lack of breakaways, with competitors closely monitoring each other. Despite this, the Burkinabe riders stood out. Lamoussa Zoungrana captured the sole intermediate sprint in Poa, followed by race leader Awa Bamogo and Ad¨le Guissou, indicating the Stallions' strategic preparation for victory in their home city.

Awa Bamogo continues to lead the individual general classification, maintaining her red jersey for time and green jersey for points, 12 seconds ahead of Lamoussa Zoungrana. Zoungrana reclaimed her pink jersey for intermediate sprints with her performance in Poa. Nigerian Godwin Grace is ranked third overall, trailing leader Bamogo by 3 minutes and 31 seconds, and wears the white jersey as the youngest competitor. Elvine Yam©ogo, today's stage winner, secured the top spot in the AES classification.

In the team rankings, Burkina Faso's A team holds the lead, followed by Nigeria and Burkina Faso's Guimbi Ouattara team. Cameroon and Burundi occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

The tour will conclude with the 5th and final stage, the Bobo-Dioulasso criterium, covering 55.90 km, set for tomorrow on Boulevard de la R©volution in Sya. The Grand Prix of Ouagadougou is scheduled for Sunday, April 19th, on Avenue Thomas Sankara.
