Colombo — Sri Lanka's Department of Census and Statistics is set to begin gathering personal and housing data for the country's 15th population and housing census starting Monday, according to announcements made on Sunday. This effort comes after delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and recent economic challenges.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Anoja Senevirathne, the Director General of the department, stated that approximately 50,000 officials are tasked as enumerators for this critical national operation. She explained that census teams would be visiting households throughout the nation to compile essential demographic and housing information. Traditionally conducted every ten years, the upcoming census follows the last count in 2012, which was postponed due to the pandemic and ensuing economic difficulties.
