Springboks Celebrated in Parliament Following Rugby World Cup Triumph

Cape Town – Parliament was a scene of jubilation as the Springboks, fresh from their Rugby World Cup victory, were warmly received by the nation’s lawmakers today.

According to Parliament of South Africa, the Springboks, led by the President of South African Rugby, Mr Mark Alexander, began the Western Cape portion of their victory tour with a spirited visit to Parliament. The team, endearingly known as the Amabhokobhoko, was greeted with enthusiasm by Parliament’s Presiding Officers.

Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Speaker of the National Assembly, expressed her honor in hosting the champions and highlighted the legislative body’s role in unifying the sport. “We are privileged to interact with the Springboks, a team we proudly regard as our own, representing every demographic of our society,” she stated.

The victory, according to Ms Mapisa-Nqakula, united the nation in celebration, casting the team as patriots and heroes of South Africa.

Mr Alexander conveyed the team’s gratitude for the country’s steadfast support, noting how social media played a pivotal role in motivating the players during the World Cup. His response underscored the nation’s collective strength.

The Springboks secured a narrow 12-11 win against New Zealand last weekend in a highly anticipated final match. They also accomplished the daunting task of defeating France, the host nation, in the quarter-finals.

Team captain Siya Kolisi emphasized the victory’s profound impact, particularly as a source of inspiration for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. “We embody your aspirations, and this triumph is a testament to what is possible. We are committed to using our platform to foster opportunities and inspire positivity,” he remarked.

Mr Amos Masondo, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, praised the Springboks for elevating South Africa’s status globally. The world champions and top-ranked team proceeded to engage with fans at the Cape Town Parade and Langa township, before heading to the Eastern Cape for the next segment of their victory parade.
