Sports Infrastructure Project to Create Opportunities for SMEs in Ohangwena

Ohangwena: Ohangwena Governor, Kadiva Hamutumwa, announced that the construction of constituency sports facilities in the Ohangwena Region is set to generate economic opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and young people. According to Namibia Press Agency, Governor Hamutumwa, at the groundbreaking ceremony for a sports facility at Ohaingu village in the Engela Constituency, emphasized that the project will not only boost local economic activity but also foster sports development. She highlighted that the infrastructure will bring people together through sporting events, thereby facilitating enterprise growth. SMEs stand to benefit from the events, with opportunities ranging from food vending to providing sports-related products and services. Governor Hamutumwa further stated that the construction phase of the project will actively involve local businesses and skilled youth. The Roads Contractor Company (RCC), the state-owned enterprise leading the project, plans to engage SMEs as subcontrac tors, offering them a chance to gain valuable experience and skills. Moreover, the initiative will provide opportunities for graduates from technical and vocational education and training institutions to participate in the construction efforts. This aligns with the broader goals of promoting skills development, job creation, and youth empowerment. Hamutumwa explained that sport is prioritized under Namibia's sixth National Development Plan (NDP6) within the human development pillar. It is recognized as a catalyst for youth empowerment, employment creation, and national development.
