Oshana: The special voting process for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections in the Oshana Region began smoothly on Wednesday morning, with eligible voters heading to the two polling stations in the region to exercise their democratic rights. The voting process, which started at 07h00, will continue until 21h00 across the nation. It is specifically arranged for the security cluster members who will be on duty during the ordinary national elections on 27 November, as well as for seagoing personnel and Namibians residing abroad.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Oshana Regional Electoral Officer, Amon-Oiva Haimbangu, stated in an interview that two polling stations have been established in the region-one located at the Oshakati Police Station and another at Oluno Community Hall in Ondangwa. Haimbangu mentioned that approximately 4,000 security cluster members and seagoing personnel are anticipated to participate in the voting process.

He emphasized that eligible voters should ensure they have the
necessary documented proof confirming their employment within the security cluster. “We have a list from the police, Namibian Defence Force, and Namibia Correctional Service, as well as those who are seagoing,” Haimbangu explained. He noted that a few seagoing personnel have already cast their votes and provided documentation from their employers indicating that they will be on duty on 27 November 2024.

Meanwhile, Jessy Auala, the presiding officer for the Oshakati West Constituency, observed that those eligible in the region have turned out in significant numbers to vote during the special voting process at the Oshakati Police Station.
