Otjiwarongo: Special voting in the Presidential and National Assembly elections for the members of the Namibian Police Force, Namibian Defence Force, and correctional officials in the Otjozondjupa Region commenced smoothly in Otjiwarongo, Okahandja, and Grootfontein constituencies on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s (ECN) Otjozondjupa Regional Electoral Officer, Victoria Amutenya, confirmed in an interview that all three polling stations in the region-Otjiwarongo, Grootfontein, and Okahandja-started on time at 07h00. She noted that queues were long early in the morning, indicating a smooth start to the voting process.
Amutenya stated, “We started on time and all is going very well so far. Our teams did not experience challenges so far, therefore the voting is ongoing.” She further addressed a request from some members of the Namibian Defence Force at Okahandja to relocate the Okahandja polling station from the Osona military base corner to Osona Village. he issue was resolved with the military chiefs on Wednesday morning, confirming that the polling station at the Osona military base corner will remain as the gazetted destination.
Additionally, Amutenya mentioned that soldiers from the Etosha National Park, engaged in national duties under anti-poaching activities, traveled to vote at the Otjiwarongo polling station. She noted that the special election will take place throughout the day, concluding at 21h00 when polling stations will close countrywide.
