Sissili: The Special Delegation of the L©o municipality held its institutional accountability day on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in Dabiou, sector 7 of L©o. Chaired by the High Commissioner of the Sissili province, T©wend© Isaac Sia, this meeting for direct exchanges allowed local authorities to present a review of the past year, gather input from key stakeholders, and outline the prospects for municipal development for the current year, in a spirit of transparency and social cohesion.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the decentralization of this edition to Dabiou, a locality situated about ten kilometers from the urban center of L©o, was unanimously praised as a strong initiative promoting the inclusion of rural populations. The proceedings were moderated by the Secretary General of the province (SGP), Baowindsida Bingo, and received the blessings of His Majesty Lio-Pio Dan-Zw¨, Chief of the Canton of L©o.
The first item on the agenda concerned the progress of previous resolutions. Comrade Bationo/Ziba Assata, chair of the ad-hoc committee established for this purpose, presented the level of implementation of the earlier recommendations. Given the significant results and the diligence of her team, the committee was officially reappointed in its entirety for a new one-year term.
Presenting the report on the local authority, the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of L©o, Kassoum Koalaga, highlighted the municipality's economic and structural performance. Despite the global economic downturn and the complex national security situation, the local financial dynamics show positive indicators, reflecting a continuous increase in own resources thanks to the taxpayers' civic-mindedness.
This budgetary dynamism has notably enabled a strengthening of the city hall's human capital, illustrated by the recruitment of administrative staff and municipal police officers. According to the authorities, these efforts have materialized on the ground through significant investments benefiting local populations, particularly in the key sectors of education and health.
Speaking about this assessment, the High Commissioner of Sissili, T©wend© Isaac Sia, expressed his satisfaction. 'The PDS (Provincial Development Party) complied with an exercise mandated by the fundamental texts of the transition during this first half of the year. Addressing the population and representatives of key stakeholders in L©o, it provided a detailed report on all the activities carried out for the benefit of the municipality. We observed that many projects have been initiated and that numerous achievements have been made by 2025 to improve the daily lives of the people,' stated the province's top official, giving special recognition to the municipal authorities.
The High Commissioner also noted that the municipality already offers several permanent frameworks allowing for citizen involvement, inviting residents to take ownership of these spaces and to continue to collaborate closely with the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).
Turning to future prospects, PDS Kassoum Koalaga outlined the major priority projects for his municipality. Faced with the state of the urban roads, exacerbated by the onset of the rainy season, he made a passionate appeal for citizen mobilization. "The municipality of L©o is now on a new trajectory. Indeed, our local resources are constantly increasing, reflecting the vitality of our institutions and the dynamism of the local economy. Despite the security challenges facing the country and a certain overall economic gloom, the various stakeholders are joining forces to enable our municipality to thrive," stated Comrade Koalaga.
Among the immediate projects, the PDS announced the priority of creating secondary markets in the neighborhoods to relieve congestion in the central market in the face of rapid urbanization, as well as the imperative need for a large, modern performance hall to enhance the city's cultural dynamism.
On the health front, the major announcement is the planned construction of two Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) in Don and Lan, two strategic villages located on the border. These facilities aim to guarantee quality, local healthcare for the population, preventing them from having to cross the border into neighboring Ghana for health reasons.
Following direct discussions, stakeholders approved three main recommendations to guide future actions. These include the management and security of cemeteries, urban security and the fight against narcotics, and the fight against stray animals, among many others.
Present at the event, His Majesty Lio-Pio Dan-Zw¨, Chief of the Canton of L©o, welcomed this act of transparency, which reassures the population about the proper management of public assets. He also emphasized the crucial role of traditional chiefs in preserving social peace. "As for our part in ensuring the well-being of the people, we have been playing it for a very long time. Today, nearly 90% of local disputes are resolved by the community and customary authorities. It is only when solutions elude us that cases are referred to the courts. This greatly contributes to strengthening social cohesion and harmonious coexistence," the Chief of the Canton stressed.
The accountability day ended on a note of general satisfaction, laying the foundations for a renewed contract of trust between the Special Delegation and the citizens of L©o to meet the challenges of 2026.
