Speaker Wetangula Urges Unity Among Kisii County Leaders for Effective Governance

Kisii, Kenya: National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has made a passionate call for unity among elected leaders in Kisii County, emphasizing the importance of cohesive leadership for the benefit of local residents.

According to Kenya News Agency, During the Jubilee celebrations at Nyabururu Catholic Church in Kitutu Central Subcounty, Kisii County, Wetangula addressed the ongoing public squabbles among elected officials, a year after the elections. He stressed the need for leaders to support and uplift each other, highlighting the progress of a bill on national bipartisan dialogue aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence, both locally and nationally. “We must learn to love and uplift each other because when these elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers,” Wetangula remarked.

The Speaker expressed concerns over the impact of continued discord among leaders, particularly regarding the delay in services. He reminded them that devolved units were established to enhance service delivery to the public. In addition to his call for unity, Wetangula also encouraged residents to utilize the current rains for crop cultivation, contributing to food security in the region.

County Woman Representative Doris Donya Aburi appealed to President William Ruto for the construction of dams in the region. The region, known for experiencing heavy rainfall, faces a shortage of water, making the need for dams critical for various activities.

The appeal from Wetangula and Aburi comes amidst a backdrop of tensions among local leaders, perceived as a jostle for supremacy in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Other notable attendees at the event included Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, South Mogirango MP Silvanus Osoro, and Kitutu Chacha MP Japheth Nyakundi.
