Speaker of Namibia’s National Assembly Visits Namibian Students in Cuba

Santa clara: Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, met with Namibian students at the Universidad Marta Abreu de Villa Clara in Cuba on Sunday, as part of his official visit leading a multi-party parliamentary delegation.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the delegation, which is in Cuba from October 20 to 26, 2024, aims to engage and motivate the students studying abroad. A press release from the National Assembly highlighted that Katjavivi emphasized the transformative power of education and encouraged the students to utilize their international experience for the betterment of Namibia upon their return. “You are lucky to gain a new perspective that will broaden your understanding of the world. Take the opportunity to learn from the Cuban people and their customs. These connections can lead to lasting friendships and mutual appreciation,” Katjavivi remarked during the meeting.

One of the students, Willy Losper, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to study in Cuba, noting tha
t he was among the selected few by the Ministry of Works and Transport. “We were divided into three groups to study different career paths. We believe that at the end of the road, we will go back and give back to Namibia,” Losper shared. The visit underscores the importance of international education and its role in fostering global understanding and cooperation.
