MADRID—In response to recent injuries, Spain’s national football coach Luis de la Fuente has updated his squad, calling up Bryan Zaragoza of Osasuna and Bryan Gil of Girona for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Serbia.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the adjustments were necessitated following injuries to key players over the weekend. Barcelona’s forward Ferran Torres sustained a hamstring injury during a match against Alaves, leading to his withdrawal from the squad. Additionally, Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, already sidelined for the Denmark match due to a suspension, will miss further play after a knee ligament injury incurred during a game against Villarreal. Another concern for the Spanish team is Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, who is currently doubtful after missing this weekend’s game due to a back injury.
Coach de la Fuente has opted not to call up a replacement defender, likely giving Tottenham’s Pedro Porro an opportunity to secure a more permanent position on the team. Bryan Gil, returning to the national squad, previously debuted under coach Luis Enrique in 2021 and has made four appearances since. Bryan Zaragoza, who debuted against Scotland in October 2023, has been recognized for his strong performance with Osasuna this season.
