Soy Sub County, Uasin Gishu – In a significant move to promote educational equality, Soy Sub County in Uasin Gishu has initiated a four-year education bursary program for 3000 needy students, funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF).

According to Kenya News Agency, who spoke at the launch of the Soy Constituency NGCDF scholarship program, the initiative is a step towards fostering equality in society through education. He revealed that an allocation of Ksh 7 million is set aside to cover the first year of the scholarship.

This year’s program has successfully provided four-year educational sponsorships to 75 students at Loreto Matunda High School. This effort aims to offer equal opportunities to students and reduce social class gaps within the community.

The plan is to extend this support to 50-100 students per school across all 46 secondary schools in the constituency. This expansion is set to benefit approximately 3000 vulnerable students from the Sh7 million fund. Kiplagat emphasized his dedication to supporting the education of students in Soy Sub County.

In addition to the current initiative, Kiplagat mentioned plans for the next batch of day schools, where each of the 46-day secondary schools identified by bursars will receive full four-year scholarships for 50 students.

Highlighting the transparency of the bursary allocation process, Soy Bursary Chairperson Hillary Busolo noted that the selection was fair and equitable. The process used the IEBC portal to verify parents’ ID numbers and birth years, ensuring that scholarships were awarded exclusively to residents of Soy Constituency.
