ADDIS ABABA – South Korea has expressed a robust commitment to fortify and elevate its bilateral relations with Ethiopia, with both nations eyeing new vistas in their partnership. Ambassador Jung Kang, representing South Korea in Ethiopia, emphasized this vision during a conversation with the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA).
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the diplomatic and historical ties between South Korea and Ethiopia date back to the 1950s, marked by Ethiopian soldiers’ participation in the Korean War. This shared history has laid a solid foundation for the enduring friendship and collaborative efforts between the two nations. Over the decades, their relationship has expanded across various domains, including trade, investment, development cooperation, and cultural exchanges, showcasing a multifaceted partnership.
Ambassador Kang articulated a clear objective to augment these ties further, aiming to propel the Korea-Ethiopia relationship to unprecedented levels. He outlined a strategic focus on enhancing economic links, development collaboration, and joint initiatives within international forums, underscoring a holistic approach to bilateral engagement.
Gebeyehu Ganga, Director-General for Middle East, Asia, and Pacific Countries Affairs, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the profound people-to-people connections that complement the diplomatic ties between Ethiopia and South Korea. He acknowledged the dynamic growth of their interactions, particularly in sectors like trade, investment, and technology, signaling a promising trajectory for future collaboration.
