Sourou: The Emergency Territorial Development and Resilience Project (PUDTR) has inaugurated a modern and fully equipped health and social promotion center (CSPS) in the municipality of Tougan. This facility, situated in Sector 7 of the town, officially opened its doors to the public on Monday, January 19, 2026, with the ceremony attended by the municipality's special delegation, provincial health authorities, and representatives from various social groups.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Constantin Sow, chief physician of the Medical Centre with a surgical unit (CMA) in Tougan, who represented the district's Chief Medical Officer, Jer´me Nikiema, emphasized that the new CSPS adheres to Burkina Faso's health standards and will significantly enhance patient monitoring in the area. Dr. Sow highlighted that Sector 7 previously faced challenges due to its remote location from conventional health facilities, making patient monitoring difficult. The new CSPS includes essential infrastructure such as a maternity ward, a dispensary, a medicine depot, a kitchen, a shed, and three dwellings, all supported by a borehole.
Ouigou Tiendrebeogo, president of the special delegation, expressed appreciation for the CSPS's construction, emphasizing the resilience demonstrated by all involved, despite setbacks caused by the security situation. Construction began in 2023 and faced delays, yet the collaborative efforts led to the completion of this crucial facility. Tiendrebeogo thanked the PUDTR for supporting local development and urged Sector 7 residents to develop strategies for the infrastructure's sustainable maintenance.
Local resident Diero Oumarou conveyed relief over the health center's construction, which alleviates the need for Sector 7 residents to travel long distances for healthcare. The new primary healthcare center is ready to serve the community, with a health team already positioned at the district level to commence services on Monday, January 26, 2026.
