Sourou Traders’ Association Launches Waste Management Awareness Campaign

Sourou: The Sourou Traders' Association organized an awareness-raising event on June 9, 2026, focusing on hygiene and sanitation, particularly waste management, at the main market in Tougan. The event was attended by the president of the special delegation, Ouigou Tiendr©b©ogo, along with several municipal officials.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the awareness campaign featured a conference led by environmental technical officer Moussa Olivier Millogo, the head of the Hygiene and Sanitation department of the town hall. Millogo's presentation addressed waste management issues in the city, their impacts on health and the environment, and best practices for maintaining a healthy living environment.

Djeneba D©m©, vice-president of the Sourou Traders' Association, stated that the initiative aims to improve market cleanliness. "We noticed that some people were throwing garbage everywhere, which significantly degraded the cleanliness of the market. That's why we initiated this awareness campaign to challenge everyone on their daily behavior and promote a healthier environment," she explained.

Ouigou Tiendr©b©ogo, president of the Tougan special delegation, praised the Sourou Traders' Association's initiative. He emphasized the importance of each citizen's role in maintaining a clean living environment and warned of sanctions against those who dispose of waste improperly. "Sanctions are planned against people who dispose of their waste in an uncontrolled manner. After the awareness phase, we will move on to the repression phase," he warned.

In support of the initiative, the Sourou Traders' Association donated four bins to the Tougan town hall, which will be installed in various locations around the market.
