Sourou Tabaski Market Faces Gloomy Outlook Ahead of Festival

Tougan: Livestock traders decried the gloomy sheep market on Wednesday morning, June 4, 2025, two days before the Tabaski festival. With 48 hours to go before the celebration of the sheep festival, the livestock market is not always busy for ram traders in the town of Tougan. “The animals are available, but the market is bleak. For two days, no one has bought anything. People can’t afford it,” said Adama Saramb©, a sheep seller at the Tougan livestock market.

According to Burkina Information Agency, it costs between 100,000 and 200,000 CFA francs to buy a sheep. It takes two to three days to sell a single sheep, laments another trader who justifies this situation by the high prices. In the absence of mutton, some believers make do with poultry for the Eid al-Adha festival, says Adama Saramb©. Chicken prices fluctuate between 4,000 and 7,000 CFA francs.

They all expressed their hope for a swift return of peace and security so they can carry out their activities.
