TOUGAN — On Sunday, residents of Tougan, the capital of Sourou province in the Boucle du Mouhoun region, demonstrated their support for President Ibrahim Traore and called for increased security measures over the next five years.
According to Burkina Information Agency, a representative from the provincial coordination of associations and citizen monitoring movements, the march-meeting on July 21, 2024, was organized to affirm the community’s backing for President Traore’s leadership, particularly in the context of the ongoing fight against terrorism. Djibo emphasized the critical nature of the next five years for the region, which has been plagued by security challenges.
Participants of the march expressed their desires for peace, the safe return of internally displaced persons to their homes, and the resumption of services that had been halted due to security concerns. The demonstration concluded with a message delivered to Désiré Badolo, the high commissioner of the province, who committed to forwarding their concerns to the relevant authorities.
